Finding a contractor that uses quality shingle is the best way to insure you won’t have streaks on your roof a year after its on. Make sure you ask for streak resistant shingles if you are choosing shingles. If you are using a metal roof, there is no issue with streaks and if there is any algae build up its easy to remove and usually undetectable.

All the asphalt shingles worth installing have copper oxide impregnation. Some offer extra protection. Next time you drive around look for copper flashings the inspect the roof below. The shingles will be pristine. Copper and zinc to a lessor degree are anti microbial. The small amount that washes down with each rain prevents the microbes (algae, lichen, moss) from taking hold. There are precut zinc strips made to be added to the roof system at the ridge for this reason. Copper is better and looks nicer. The cost is slightly prohibitive but on most roofs it won’t be that much and will do a great job while looking great.
