The whole room has wall paper and its not coming off easy.
A&R Bentley Painting: Wall paper is tricky to get off that’s for sure. The trick is water, water, and more water. Once you get a good amount of water on the wall using either a sponge or a Hudson sprayer. It will be easy to pull off first vinyl layer. Then use more water and start scraping the final layer the paper backing. Scrape with a 6in blade. Wait for the walls to dry then sand and paint.
Way jay construction here in mi: We have a small steam generator that has a hose with an eight inch square box on the end of it. If you put it on the wall paper for 25 seconds (wait for it to look wet) you can take a scraper and it will peal right off. Slowly move up the wall with the paper and it will move right along. Works great.
There are some wallpapers that are almost impossible to get off. We have done a lot of removal projects over the years. The main trick is you need to get moisture behind the first layer. We have scraped, steamed, and spiked wallpaper. Sometimes it just won’t come off no matter what you do. We have tried many different solutions but warm water seems to work as good as anything, applied with a pump sprayer.
There are instances where you will need to just seal it with oil base paint, skim with drywall mud and then texture. We’ve never had a problem doing this when all else fails.
