How do you clean an indoor brick wall?

In my appartment, most of the walls are brick wall and they have gotten dirty over the years.

I would like to clean my walls but I have few questions first:

	How long does it take?

Can it be done, if I have all my furnitures in the appartment(I live in the place)?

Can I do it myself, or do I need a professional ? If can do it myself, what kind of products/tools do I need? If I can't how much that would cost?

It looks as though there is a reasonable explanation for how to do this at howtocleanstuff.net. The explanation also references several cleaning products and equipment. It seems pretty simple though: maybe you could start by trying and cleaning a smaller area of the wall. If that works out well, I’d figure out how to go and clean up the remainder.

I would try a shop vac with a round brush head and hopefuly the brick was seeled and it’s not the morter crumbling.

The best way to clean a brick wall indoors is with a process called soda blasting.

This is generally done by a professional but if you are serious about getting everything off and having it really clean this is definitely the best way to go.

It is similar to sand blasting but instead uses baking soda in an air stream to very lightly grind off the dirt, soot, grease, etc.

The debris falls to the floor and is vacumed up afterwards. Dust screens around the project are needed.

The debris is encapsulated in the baking soda at the same time so there is no smell or excessive wet mess to clean after.

You can lay plastic right over a carpet or hardwood floor and do it right over it. Just make sure the edges are sealed carfully.

In the case of a fire or charred brick it will actually improve the smell.

Some tool rental yards have the equiptment. It is usually lightweight and it is very simple to operate

Similar to an air brush…

Hope this helps!
