By getting multiple opinions and comparing which ones are the closest in what damages need repair
The Adjustor’s Report is given to the Contractor as a checklist of what work the Insurance company is willing to pay for according to Standard building practice with Actual and Replacement Cost Values being used for calculations
An insurance company doing an inspection for the damage to a home they are responsible are comparable to a car sells man giving you a straight answer. An insurance company is going to try to pay as small as amount as they can on the claim. I would suggest contact a few independent contractors to give you their own bids on the project and then compare all the variables. If it is a large claim it may not be a bad idea to hire a consultant to oversee this work for you, especially if you are a layman to construction.
I would suggest comparing all paperwork, even if you receive a modified set of paperwork, you may think they are only changing something you discussed but in truth they may take advantage and change more than they should.
Last bit of advice; do not move forward until you are fully comfortable with all the information. If a contractor or the insurance adjuster tells you not to worry about something unresolved, that it can be adjusted after the fact, just hold fast until it is finalized and only then move forward.
I hope this has help, good luck to you all.
