How has your experience been with accepting credit card payments from residential customers?

What type of jobs do you take?
Any issues that commonly come up with your credit processor (e.g. chargebacks, claims, holds, etc.)?
Were any of the fees passed on to customers? If so, how do they react?

we never where set up to accept credit cards

My company is in the residential remodeling business.

We use PayPal for mobile payments, as the fee runs 2.7% for a swiped card.
We also use PayPal when emailing an invoice (smaller jobs usually) and the fees there run 2.9% + 0.30.
We also use Dwolla as an option within an emailed invoice that the customer can pay using a bank draft (non credit card) method and there is no fee!
One of the benefits with PayPal is the money is in your PayPal account almost instantly and the Business Debit card they give you allows access to those funds right away.

We have never had a charge back/claim or hold put on funds.
We do not pass the fees on to customers at this time.

We use First Data 1.25% but we will accept credit cards only for the down payment (up to 1000$)

The square app is a good option 2.75 fee for transactions which is less than most financing dealer fees. Most contractors don’t even realize their customers have additional money aviallable for projects on their credit cards and a lot of jobs are lost.
