How many days should a average size bathroom remodel take?

Great question, Legacy Plumbing! The truth is that the length (in days) of time to complete a standard, bathroom remodel depends on variables, such as:

“Are walls being removed and is rough plumbing and rough electrical work required?”
“Will the contents; i.e. vanity, mirror, light, toilet, etc., be purchased prior to the commencement of the project?”
“Will the remodel require a permit and inspection?”

The variables will determine the length of time to complete the project, but, for this scenario:

a) I will make the assumption that the homeowner would like the contents, flooring (tile), wall surround (tile), tub and trim replaced, plus painting the entire room.

b) I will also make the assumption that the bathroom remodel will not require permits (because the walls will remain intact (minus the tub surround).

c) I will make the assumption that the contents are purchased prior to the start of the project.

If the above assumptions are true for this example, then the length of time to complete a standard size bathroom remodel would be five (5) days for two (2) guys.

The first day will be demo.
The second and third day will be installing the tub, HardieBacker, tiling, etc.
The fourth day will be installing the contents.
The fifth day will be painting.

The General Contractor will walk the project with the homeowner once the project is complete. If touch-ups; i.e. punch list, is required, then the GC will schedule for the work to be completed. This typically takes a half of a day or less, if necessary.

The average cost of a bathroom remodel project is approximately $6,000. But remember, this estimate includes the General Contractor purchasing the contents (at standard, Big Box, in-store pricing).

Hopefully, this helps to answer your question and provide you with a greater understanding of what goes into a bathroom remodel and the length of time to complete the project.

With permits you will have to account for the inspection process, which here in Atlanta is sometimes up to 3 days of waiting on the inspector. So, if we are doing a 125 sq ft bathroom total demo and put back, I allow for 4 weeks. There should be some lead time depending on the materials used.
