There is a property we are looking at that we would like to remodel. The property can be found at: https://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/5512-8th-St-S-22204/home/11259767. We would like to take down the car port, and basically double the width of the house to expand the living areas and add a room. How much do you think it would cost for a project like this? Thanks much!
This is really a regional question but since I see nobody has answered it I’ll give it a shot…
Sadly you save no money in the addition by having the carport already there. As a matter of fact, it is going to cost you more to do the addition because you have to demo the car port. The addition is also likely going to need to set back from your property line more than the carport or you may need to do extra fire-proofing if you are too close to the lot line (varies by municipality).
Given the approximate size, the cost for the addition / bump out is likely between $70-90K for a single story addition of “just space” (not kitchen/bath, etc… and assuming slab-on-grade foundation)
