We’re renovating our kitchen and asked our contractor to price out adding a prep sink to the island.
He said the costs would add $3k to the budget, even though the prep sink would only be about 5 feet from the main sink. Is this a reasonable estimate? Why is running the extra plumbing so expensive?

Plumbing code is the answer. The hardest part is likely the venting. Also needs to be drained and hot and cold supply lines run. Sink needs to be templated for the island countertop.
