How much does it cost to install air conditioning in a house?

Our home has central heat, but no air conditioning. How much would it cost to add Central A/C? Does it couple into the existing heating system, or is a separate set of ducts? Our house is single story, and about 1200 sq. feet.

When added to an existing forced-air heating system, central air for a 2,000-square-foot home costs $3,500 to $4,000 and can be done by two technicians in two to three days, often with little or no change to the ducting. For a house that needs ducts, the costs and work time double.

Prices range from $4,000 to over $8,000 depending on the type of equipment you want, and the work involved. We always start and finish a job in the same day, and there a lot of jobs we are able to finish in less than 5 hours.

It very depend on the size of the house and if you need zoning and divide the house to 2 or more zones. It could run anywhere from 4,000-12,000 depend on the size and the equipment you choose to invest in.
