I’d like to move our cooktop to the kitchen island for a remodel we’re planning for this summer. To move the cooktop, we’d also have to move the vent fan. How much does this typically cost, assuming the new location is about 8 feet from the original location? We know from prior remodels that the ceiling joists run parallel to the proposed pathway, so there shouldn’t be any need to rout the ducting around/through the joists.

It will be entirely dependent on the details:
How far? Through a new cabinet? Through a soffit?
I will tell you that at the very least you will need a power outlet to serve the hood and an exhaust line to vent through the roof / wall.
