Make sure the hardware you select will not pit due to the salt air! Investigate all materials by contacting manufacturers to insure it is compatible with your environment. Good luck!
Most coastal cities and towns already have building codes in place to ensure that homeowners and businesses are provided with the proper materials, by contractors, to deal with the never-ending battle of salt in the air. If you are doing the work yourself, I would suggest that you check with your local Department of Code Enforcement to make sure that you’re not doing anything that requires a permit. They will also provide you a list of materials that are suitable and required for your area.
As I always say, do the research and make sure you’re up to speed when it comes to any construction or remodeling project! It will pay off in the long run!
If you are talking about the exterior walls, the best product is vinyl siding. They make a siding that is primarily used at the shore. It has a ridged strip across the top and is called charter oak and is an 046 panel and is made by Alside. There are also pavers for walk ways that hold up quite well to the elements. If you are entertaining new hardware, there is hardware made that is resistant to salt air or you can coat regular hardware with a clear lacquer to save some money. Hope this helps.
