If you could pick one criteria for the selection of a GC, what would the most important one be?

COMMUNICATION

Although there are many qualities and criteria that make up the selection of choosing a great GC. But having to choose one only it would definitely be honesty.

I would make sure to talk to some previous clients and ask especially about transparency, time management, clarity in communication and standing by the work if something comes up.

Years in business Determined by License #.
Every License # has an issue date. You do not want to hire a newly licensed Contractor.

Kind of like giving your car keys to a 15 yr old kid with a drivers permit.

its hard to pick just one but i would say Integrity because that defines them as honest, trustworthy, and have strong moral principles. and you would want all of these in a G.C

Track record of running open book operation - only honest and trustworthy guys can afford that.

That is a tough question. There are so many elements to making a proper choice of a GC. I guess that most important one would be INTEGRITY! Under the heading of Integrity it would include such things as professionalism, experience, trust and how you personally feel while interacting with their entire organization.

There are several aspects or relevant importance but the main ones should definitely Integrity, Experience, Credentials and of course, Communication.
You have to go for the GC that is trustworthy, honest and whom has had a clear understanding of your ideas and expectations.

Like some posters above I would agree Integrity, second and third would be communication and experience.
