Really hope you think it through before committing. A state certified contractor knows the Florida Uniform Building Code and is familiar with the permitting and inspection processes. Additionally, local builders usually have accounts with lumber yards and other suppliers who provide trade discounts, which can save you money.
Over the last decade or so, I have unfortunately had to bail out several ambitiously naïve DIY-ers. Trust a professional, it is a lot more work than you are prepared for, and the Building Inspectors don’t make special concessions for “homeowner-contractors”.
