I gave a contractor $20,000 up front to order custom cabinets and did not receive them for 3 months
if the cab cost is 20000.00 and they are custom yes it could take a few weeks to get custom cab.
If that is what the cabinets cost than yes. Custom cabinets can’t be returned so it is important for a contractor to get enough to cover the whole cost up front. That way they know the money is there to pay for them before the order is placed.
Contractors usually not supposed to charge for materials. The contractor can only charge up to a $1000 for deposit upfront .
He can charge you for cabinets order 50% upon order and 50%upon delivery . you should request how much the cabinets will cost if they are part of the labor contract.
Well, let’s look at this from the other perspective. What if the contractor orders $20,000 of custom cabinets from the manufacturer and you change your mind. Who’s going to pay for and use the cabinets that were custom made for your home?
It depends on the total price of the project- we usually charge 50 percent’s up front of the total cost,
with a custom kitchen you might not see work but the contractor spends already on your project, for example we build the cabinets, paint them and cut the counter in our shop, that means that the client pay 50 percent but sees nothing in his house for the next few weeks, you cannot assume that the contractor will pay all of this costs without receiving a payment from you
