Is it loud when the rain hits a metal roof?

We need to install a metal roof system and I was wondering if anyone has any problems with the sound of rain hitting it?

Yes.

Yes, it will likely be very loud during rain storms.

No. If you install a metal roof on a structure with a solid deck, and a properly insulated attic space, it will not be any louder than on a standard asphalt roof.

No, ditto the answer below. Roof deck, insulation, and drywall deaden the noise on the roof.

It depends on your roof pitch. I would say if your roof pitch is greater then 6-12 you will not hear the differences because the rain will not hit your roof at a straight angle, but if your roof is pretty flat, rain drops will fall on your roof at almost a straight angle, creating a drum like sound. It can get very noisy and annoying, especially in heavy rain storms.

Yes, it will be louder then usual. You can use foam board on top of the wood deck to silence some of the noise but it still will be heard

With a metal corrugated roof and enclosures installed on the ends, the metal will muffle the impact at the time. Overall, yes, metal is louder than traditional roofing.

Yes, if there is no acoustic barrier.

I’ve heard a number of people say that they enjoy the sound. It’s not very loud.

I agree with the others - there are other things that factor in to deaden or lessen the noise if you were to install a metal roof like pitch, insulation, roof deck, drywall etc.

Insulation is a great sound reducer because it mufflles the sound waves generated by the rain striking the roof.

Yes, it will definitely be louder than asphalt roof or tile roof

Yes it is and would be on any metal roof.

Yes, if not insulated properly.

A metal roof is louder than a shingle roof if it is a swap out. If you have foam insulation installed in your attic you will not see any difference in noise.
