Kitchen remodeling: what are the main factors that impact the final cost?

When you’re considering a full kitchen remodel, what are the main factors that influence the final cost of the project?

I’d also like some advice on how to keep costs manageable without compromising on the final product.

Your largest cost are usually cabinets, countertops and appliances. Tile for the floors and backsplash can add up as well.

The largest factor besides square footage, is always finishing’s. Which like stated above are cabinets, countertops, appliances, flooring, backsplash tiling. These are usually the variables when a general contract says $100-$150 a sq. ft. or $375-$475 a sq. ft. etc…, the labor is already factored in to that price.

Sticking to your plans & eliminate upgrades after you breakground, will help reduce hidden costs, i.e. say if you switch what refrigerator you use midway through your project you may have to reframe the counters, move other appliances etc… which will move all your timelines around & increase your total project cost well beyond the cost of the upgrade. This is where those costs can jump out at you, your “small” upgrade on an item mid project can & will usually disrupt your timeline. A common mistake also is to go “cheap” by ordering major appliances online; the shipping, possible damage, lack of local help if/when there is a problem will add up in the long run.

of course the normal expenses are to drive the cost of any kitchen revonation let’s try to understand that the big concern to keeping the build under budget is to be able to compromise with the client. and understanding their needs before starting any project is so important that achiving that deadline.

The main cost towards kitchen remodeling would be floor-tiling, wall decoration and kitchen appliances. If you planning to re-sell your hose, and for that remodeling your kitchen, you can do simple wall painting.

In order of most expensive to least you are generally looking at Cabinets, Appliances, Flooring, Countertops, Lighting as the big ticket items

Buy your plumbing fixtures on discount discontinued or floor model and make sure that they are lead free. Offer to help the contractor to keep the labor down.

Kitchen prices can flucuate remarkably. Most Kitchens 90 to 150 sq/ft removing wall, floor and ceiling coverings, keeping fixtures within a foot or so from there existing positions, can run between 10k and 20k. Replacing or moving windows, doors can run $600 to $2000 per unit depending on quality. As always moving plumbing fixtures, removing walls (especially bearing) will add significant numbers to your total.

The largest price is cabinets/tops. Cabs can run under $5000 to as much as you’d like to spend. he average for my experience being around $12,000. As far as tops go there is always laminate at around $20 sq/ft but if your spending 12K on cabs your prob using Granite or solid surface which starts at $50 sq/ft.

Flooring on an average kitchen is fundamentally the same for tile or hardwood, unless your squre footage is large. Elec radiant matts can add $700 to $1500.

To minimize costs i’ve had customers who removed there own cabinets (after we disconnect elec and plumb) and some will do the painting. Other than those two there aren’t any other items that are very customer freindly

The Appliances, type of cabinets, countertop and flooring

the allowances will be a major factor
