Currently I have a tub over concrete foundation. I would like to change it to a shower. Problem: code require 2" drain, current tub has only 1 1/2" drain. In order to convert to a shower, they would allow us to do a Roman tub, but code require 12" deep pan size, But it is too high for short people. I want to find out if there is someone who has built a Roman tub with only 6" high pan size? Thank you for your help!
Your easiest way out is to build a curb wall in front of the area where the tub is set in or if the tub isn’t set into the wall, build a perimeter curb wall at your desired height out of 2x4s. Using wonder board or some kind of dura rock product. Sheath the curb wall. Create a cricket which diverts the water towards the drain to create pitch for drainage. Using a PVC liner with a compression fitting drain with an adjustable height, line the tub area and fold inside corners inward simulating military corners with contact cement or glue recommended by manufacture. Using a dry mix bed pan, tile, grout and seal. This is one of the many ways to obtain what you are looking for.
