A HERS index (Home Energy Rating System) measures the energy efficiency of a home. The score reflects the efficiency of the homes insulation, HVAC and hot water systems, conditioned and unconditioned spaces, and windows and doors. A typical new home built to the most recent building standards set forth by the IECC will have a HERS rating of around 100. When an existing home has an energy audit, the HERS rating can help homeowners make remodeling decisions. The rating will quantify the performance of a buildings systems and address the areas needing to be improved. A lower score such as 65 can result in reduced utility bills. A lower HERS rating can also positively affect the resale value of home. For more information check out: http://www.resnet.us/
