You should never attempt to take care of an electrical problem on your own. Besides for being a complicated issue which you probably don’t know enough about, it’s also dangerous to deal with wiring and electricity without proper training, and it may be illegal. Additionally, most insurance policies will be voided if an unqualified individual tampers with your wiring. Lastly, a professional electrician will provide quality, lasting service, know the laws and regulations involved, and make sure your home is safe.
Why would anyone want to risk not using a Professionally licensed person for anything?
We are licensed and insured for a reason!

I have seen many a home burn down due to unlicensed contractors!
Hiring a professional is in everyone’s best interest especially the homeowner. Hiring a professional make sure that what ever you are having done is being done by someone that is skilled enough to do it correctly and most importantly safely. Professionals doing their trade for a living are up to date on the latest products and practices most often saving homeowner money and problems in the long run.
One of the major problems in the electrical industry, particularly the residential sector, is that people only notice or think of their electrical system when there is a problem. Most homeowners and or jacks of all trades knw just enough to either get themselves in trouble, or create a bigger problem. Having been in the trade for the better part of 20 years I have many hours of on the job training, classroom training, continuing education classes, and self study. These hours add up to a qualified individual, who knows what to look for, how to effectively troubleshoot, and how to make cost effective repairs. When I say cost effective I do not mean cheap, but calling an individual such as myself first, will be much cheaper than hiring the wrong guy, paying him, and then having to call me when his work fails. There are licensing requirements for a reason, there are trade schools for a reason. You don’t just wake up one day, and decide you’re going to be an electrician. I started in the industry as an assistant, which is a fancy word for “the guy doing the grunt work”. After a year, I went into the apprenticeship program, which documented a minimum of 2000 hours of work experience every year over the four years of the program. Those hours do not include my classroom time, those are real world, in depth training provided by my employer and instructed by licensed professionals. Your wouldn’t allow your neighbor the mailman to perform open heart surgery would you? Then why would you trust your families lives to an unlicensed or unqualified electrician imposter? Call on a professional every time! There is more than money at stake where electricity is concerned.
Hiring a profession protects the integrity of the work. It also makes sure that any work done is up to code.
The absolute number one reason to hire a professional is to increase the value of the investment. You do not want the headache of hiring a handyman or some individual off Craigslist to do the work if it is going to be potentially adding value to your home. The old adage of “you get what you pay for” is entirely true. I have been hired as the second or third on jobs that have had shoddy work done. You always pay more when you try to cut corners initially. It is best to have a professional who can assure you of the cost and quality of work you will receive in the end. Aloha!
