Hello, I am having a new house built in New Hampshire and recently noticed that our farmers porch footings were formed with corrugated culvert instead of sonotube. I’m worried that the deep grooves in the corrugated piping will cause an issue during frosts and cause our farmers porch to lift up. I was under the impression that you’re supposed to use smooth forms, like sonotube, for footings in areas that get frost and not anything corrugated. Is that the case? If so, how concerned should I be and what’s the process for replacing footings? Any estimate of cost for something like this? The farmers porch is 36ft long with 5-6 footings. Thanks.
I don’t think you have anything to worry about in this scenario. As long as the footings are proper width and at the proper depth you should be good. I would want the proper width all the way down though and not smaller in the grooves and proper width at the max width of the groove (if that makes sense).
I agree with the other answer. Depth and size are what’s important.
