What are the pros and cons of each?
Hi,
My personal opinion on this is to go gunite if your budget can cover the cost. In my opinion, a ârealâ concrete pool no matter how âplainâ is much better for your home re sale value. This question may be best asked of your favorite realtor, but in my opinion fiberglass pools wonât last like concrete and are looked upon as cheaper, less value, more likely to have problems etc.
Always keep your eye on your homes resale value.

Good question
Unfortunately there is no real definitive answer because it really depends on you. What are you wants and needs. What is most important to you? We do have a fairly in depth answer on our website provided below. I hope we can shed some light for you and it should bring up some new more specific questions too.

Gunite Vs Fiberglass Gunite
You are looking for a VERY customized shape or size not offered in the fiberglass line. (An example of this would be an âLâ shaped pool or a pool wider than 16â)
You are looking for a pool DEEPER than 8â. This would be because youâve decided on a very springy diving board and you want to be able to do many tricks and unique dives off of said board.
You are not concerned with expensive repairs down the road.
You are not concerned with the maintenance time you spend with the pool on a weekly basis.
You are trying to create a complete naturescape. In other words, you want the pool to have many natural rock features, grottos, possibly a âpondâ appearance, etc. (Although one may argue fiberglass pools can look very natural, I still have yet to see a natural masterpiece as I have seen many times with some very high-end gunite projects.
You are looking for a beach entry. (There are a few fiberglass pools with something similar to a beach entry, but itâs still not quite the same design youâll find in a concrete pool.)
You are NOT concerned with concreteâs roughness on your feet. (Iâve had second time pool owners choose fiberglass simply because their concrete pool tore up their childrenâs feet too much. This is pretty standard with most concrete/gunite pools.) You should choose a fiberglass pool if:
You are looking for the LEAST amount of swimming pool maintenance possible on a daily/weekly basis.
You are looking for a swimming pool that will likely have no major repairs/expenses (structurally speaking) down the road.
You are looking for a quick pool install.
You are looking for a pool on the smaller end of large. In other words, you are looking for a size that is roughly 16âx40â or less. " You are looking for a pool that will have âflexâ strength if need be. (For example, letâs say you live next to a rock quarry where there is constant ground vibration.) http://sacpoolservices.com
The choice is yours. Fiberglass pools are very durable and quick to install, however you are very limited by shape and size. Concrete pools can be customized to you exact desire and imagination. You need to decide if its a custom design you want or not. From there shop around. The pools are not too far off price wise if your comparing apples to apples.size, features etc⌠Good luck and enjoy your pool !
Go with gunite pool, it is stronger, several finish options that can be refinished to look brand new with such Pebble Tech finish. Also you get different shapes. Gunite has steel reinforcing structure in the concrete. Keeps it is value which increases your property value as well.
