Yes! All Good Contractors pull permits. With a permit the project will be inspected and approved by licensed building inspectors.
Absolutely! A permit not only protects the homeowner from fraudulant contractors, it also keeps the contractor accountable to their work. A permit ensures that the work is inspected for completeness and accuracy in building. Plus, a homeowner who doesn’t have a permit for work can be fined at a later date.
Yes! Unless you are only changing cabinetry or surface materials such as flooring. Every time you touch electrical, plumbing and structural you must pull a permit.
Yes…you should always pull permits. First reason is that you and the home owner are covered from a liability perspective. Secondly, if the home is ever put on the market and modifications have been done i.e new deck, porch addition etc the perspective buyers can and probably will verify that a permit was issued at the time the work was completed to verify it was done properly. If permits were not pulled the seller could loss the sale.
Depends:
- If you’re adding sqft - YES

Yes
This is a difficult question to give a generic answer. Each jurisdiction may have different requirements for permitting. The best answer is to contact the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for their recommendation. The AHJ will help guide you on the finer points of what projects need a permit pulled and which ones do not.
Each jurisdiction may have different requirements with regards to extent of the project: Any Change in Occupational Use; any change in structural integrity; any change in electrical distribution; and change to site access; any change to heating and air-conditioning systems; are all projects that will require a permit.
Some communities do not have a code enforcement office and do not issue permits or offer inspections. In that case check with your state building board.
When in doubt pull a permit.
It ultimately depends on what jurisdiction you are in as well as what type of remodeling you are doing. Simple projects such as just painting, installing new cabinets, installing new flooring, etc do not require any permitting. However, if you are changing anything structurally, doing anything with plumbing, electrical, etc, then absolutely you want to pull permits. Any good qualified contractor will pull permits, and have his or her work examined by the county, or city to insure that all work passes appropriate codes. This is to protect YOU the homeowner!
There is no question that you should pull a permit for your home remodeling project. You should also be sure every contractor not only pulls a permit but also that they have both general liability insurance and worker’s comp. Dont let your project turn into a nightmare!
Absolutely! Your contractor should provide all necessary permits before work is done!
Yes you should always make sure your contractor is pulling the correct permits and that he his licensed to do so
The city has permit requirements for a reason. Safety is a key issue.
If the project requires permits it is an absolute must.
