Stains on bathroom ceiling?

I’ve noticed rust colored stains on my bathroom ceiling. Not sure how long they’ve been there, but I’m certain they weren’t there when I moved in 3 years ago. They feel slightly damp to the touch, even though no one has taken a shower today.

What are they? What should I do?

It can appear later on, probably not enough ventilation. Also, you may want to use paint in a egg shell finish or higher shine in the shower area.

Chuck, where is the water in relation to the shower? How big of an area are we talking about and is it getting any better?
