We have a modular home and never thought to ask the layout for the basement. We have a beautiful view with big glass doors that’s obstructed with poles all over. What can we do to remodel? Any suggestions if we can’t afford to take these out? Any suggestions or photos will be greatly appreciated.
Depending on the design of the foundation system, it may be possible to remove some of the posts after reinforcing the beams that they are supporting. It would be recommended that a structural engineer consult on the project to determine the loading on the posts, and which may be feasible to remove. Generally speaking, the addition of some small steel beams may be all that is needed to eliminate a few of the posts.
By getting an engineer to design a beam or beams to carry the load from the floor above. This would remove posts in the way and provide the same support. So say you have 2 6x6 posts an engineer would remove those add in a beam to carry the determined load say a 8x4 post and on each end of beam a new post with proper Simpson hardware to anchor it to floor of basement.
your best option would be to contact a structural engineer and have him look at it.
We have boxed them in with drywall and plastered them to finish a basement. It just helped with the looks and was cost efficient. It wouldn’t help with the view but it would look better.
You can eliminate the posts by replacing any wood beams with steel beams.
