I live in a condo and wish to mount a large TV onto my wall. It is an exterior facing wall and looks like it’s composed of concrete or cinder block behind 2x2" studs behind drywall. I see that 2X4" studs are the standard for TV mounts. Is it safe to mount to the 2x2" studs? Do I need to add supplemental support? Would adding a plywood layer between the mount and drywall help or hurt the situation? Thanks!
It would only help if you anchored into the 2x2 's. The best way is to put a 2" x 10" horizontal between the 2x2 and screw into it, then re-sheetrock . This would support the weight of the tv and bracket. Also, use liquid nail behind 2x10 for added strength. If its concrete, you can also use blue concrete screws into wall behind.
I would not try to answer this correctly without inspecting the site in-person and evaluating all factors.
What about earthquakes / extreme thunder / extreme wind?
