You should always get a copy of his insurance including his workmans compensation insurance directly from his insurance carrier. By doing this you will make sure the policy is in force and not canceled.
Hi,
We wrote a blog post especially on what questions to ask a contractor before hiring. Let me know what you think.
How long is your project going to take and get that in writing as part of the contract. Make sure not to pay your contractor too much money up front and put in writing the draw schedule as part of the contract. Make sure your contractor is licensed and has both liability and workman’s compensation insurance. Ask contractor to issue you certifications from his insurance carrier. Thanks Steve
- How many other jobs they will be working on at the same time
- names and contact information of recent similar projects
Ask for his License Number
Ask for his liability insurance certificate
How long have you been in this line of work/
How long is the work warranties?
What brand of products do you use
What type of insulation are you installing?
When price comparing be sure to compare apples with apples. One contractor could be using superior materials.
