Our entry way (2 stairs, a square area in front of the front door, and then a small area just inside the front door) is all brick, which I don’t like. What are some suitable alternatives, given that the space is indoor/outdoor, has heavy traffic, and stairs?
You can either put stucco over it or install vinyl siding using 1 x 3 wood strips installed w concrete nails.
Travertine pavers are a very nice alternative for the entry way. The have the nice look of tile and the durability for outdoor use.
You can do an overlay with tile, natural stone or pavers. They are all very aesthetically pleasing and come in almost an unlimited variety of colors, textures and sizes. Out of the three I would suggest pavers are the most durable. Natural stone can sometimes be flakey but is the most attractive out of these stone options. However out of the natural stone selection travertine is a very durable natural stone that doesn’t sacrifice longevity if installed properly. Overlays are a great way to cover up that old brick while saving you cost on demolition of your existing steps/ hardscape.
