For a narrow hallway, I would recommend bi-fold doors. If not those, maybe just a smaller door like a 24".

Depending on the available wall space, barn doors are a great option!
If it’s a tight space, I would recommend a pocket door or a sliding door. The appeal of craftsman style homes has dramatically increased the availability of sliding door options.
