What are the best materials for building decks and stairs?

The best products are Trex or materials of that nature. They last the longest and you will get to enjoy your deck for longer periods of time. Wood is used extensively but has its downfalls such as, wind, rain, snow and the sun. Over time the deck will warp and would have to be replaced with Trex or a similar material.

Pressure treated and or cedar/redwood

I agree with R.S. Construction. Most of my customers are going with Trex or Veranda decking with the vinyl railing systems. With regular pressure treated wood you must pressure wash and seal every 2-5yrs. More costly in the long run. By the way expect to pay almost double for the composite materials. Well worth it however.

Any composite/ engineered decking will last far longer than even a well maintained and sealed wood deck. The question is, do you have a look and feel preference?

is there any difference in price for materials or labor with Trex/composite vs natural wood? @bob4 @rewconstruction @alltracon

Yes, composites will cost more per linear foot. However, the maintenance and longevity of life will be significantly better.

WE strongly believe that the best frame materials are pressure treated lumber for decks and stairs. Top material for real wood is IPE wood. Composite is also lovely and maintenance free.
