Generally speaking, anything to do with energy improvements will provide some type of tax credit. Windows and insulation are often at the top of the list along with HVAC systems. Several years ago, there were tax credits for skylights as they provide natural light.
If you google IRS tax credits, you will find a whole bunch of information. You can also talk to your accountant, they are typically up on what credits are available. Here is a link for the energy star that has 2016 credits.
Hope this helps
Deconstruction is a good way to go when thinking about getting tax benefits. You can contact a local Deconstruction Appraisal company to estimate the value of the deconstruction materials from your home that may be donated to a non-profit recycling company.
This is an environmentally friendly alternative that can cover part of the extra deconstruction cost or more depending on the appraisal value and your personal income tax bracket.
