This would depend on the country in which you will be working. Europe uses the universal Euro, whereas each central and south American country has their own currency. It is best to check online to find out.
There are a few ways to tackle. Call our embassy if we have one there. A local travel agent. Call your credit card co make sure you can charge foreign currency. Get the guidelines for exchange rate on the web. There may be benifits from exchanging larger amounts of currency rather then a bit here and there.
