Our kitchen hasn’t been touched since the 70s, so we want to do a remodel. But what happens during the process? We cook a lot, and the kitchen is the center of our home. Doesn’t this process take months? Will we still be able to use some of the kitchen, or is there something else we should do to prepare?
This process can take two weeks or up to a month depending on your scope and condition of renovation.
Here are some other things that can help the process:
1.Have all long lead items ordered and on job… Exam: Tile, faucets, countertop slabs if you are going granite.
2. All paperwork properly executed so there can be no misunderstandings as soon as you kick into high gear.
3. Be part of the process that executes line items with your contractor. Always ask questions that push the project forward.
Again, it’s hard to tell you how long the project may take because so many things can prolong the situation and one of them are the SUBS! As great as your contractor hopefully is, they can always be undermined by their subcontractors…
@rivieredesigns has some great suggestions.
It sounds like you’re going to be doing a major kitchen remodel, so it will likely be 1-2 months. The time will be shorter if you don’t do inspections and permits, but I would go through the extra legwork to get it done by the books.
I would plan to eat out a lot during your kitchen remodel. A great excuse to try some new restaurants in your neighborhood!
