It is basically a system that circulates water supplied by your existing water system through a series of solar water tubes placed in the sun light. It is usually placed on the roof. It also has a pump to circulate water from the existing water heater through the solar tube system. However, it is not necessary to have the electric or gas water heater turned on. It will keep the water hot in the tank provided there is sufficient sunlight.
