What is the average cost of a bathroom remodel?

The average cost to remodel a bathroom could range from a couple hundred dollars for a face lift such as paint, trim, and decor to a couple thousand dollars for a complete renovation. Key factors that would jack your cost up could be any structural or deterioration issues found, and your taste in finishes and fixtures to be used. The two most expensive rooms in a house to remodel are kitchens and bathrooms.

that’s a great question. on average a bathroom remodel should be between 3500.00 to the 6500.00 range. what you have to understand is that the labor to install gold is the same as lead. what fixtures and appointments you choose will have direct effect on the cost. if you want a custom ceramic tile bath with a very high end selection of fixtures you could easily spend $12,000.00 or more. My experience has been that most average Americans want an acrylic or fiberglass tub and surround, a new toilet and a new vanity. this remodel should be around $5500.00

To gut the bathroom and replace all of the items with above average material, then it would cost $6,000. There are ranges for everything, but for the average homeowner with a typical bathroom with a tub, shower, toilet, vanity, etc., who would like to remove all fixtures, flooring and change the paint, then this is accurate.

The answer to this varies greatly by location and expectations. In my market, in current market conditions (late 2015) what I would consider a typical remodel, of a moderate, non-luxury small full bathroom, might cost $20,000. That’s very different from the numbers mentioned by other contractors. It reflects differences in expectations in each market, differences in the cost of labor, and differences in the profit needed to run a successful business in each market.

That depends on a lot of factors . Size of the bathroom, location of the bathroom, plumbing location, tub or shower, basically every bathroom would be different so there is no average price. Sorry I couldn’t help with an answer to your question, because there really isn’t a average because there’s too many factors.

The average cost for a bathroom remodel for us is around $20K. Which includes updating plumbing waste & vents and water piping. Of course, it depends on the scale of the remodel and or materials desired by homeowner. We usually work on custom remodels, but will take any project size, of course.

The national average is supposed to be about $12,000 according to several notable sources (NARI,NAHB) but it really depends on selections. From linoleum to marble and from fiberglass to copper, the range of prices for each item in a bathroom vary significantly. Add to this the labor cost in your area and the availability of qualified contractors to do the work. Currently, the demand for this type of work is very high which is going to push labor prices up for those who are willing to pay more to get the job done sooner.

Speaking from our own experience, our company is seeing average cost of $16,000 to do a 10 x 12 semi-custom higher end (not luxury) bath with tile to the half wall, plywood inset cabinets, marble or granite counter tops, frameless or semi-frameless shower glass and Kohler fixtures.

$17,000 based on our previous ones

Where I am in PA. average cost for my projects is 15k to 20k mid range 10’ X 10’ size, Tile floor, custom shower etc.

I’d say from $6000-$10000 depending on quality of finishes.

KG,
I think your question needs to be more detailed in order to get a very good answer. Without going to deep i would suggest three data points. Size of bathroom, location (city/state), and quality of finish. (builder grade, nice or luxury) with these three points we can better advise you. In the the Northern Va area we see four and half foot by 8 foot bathrooms with a really nice finish range from $12,500 to $17,000. Some companies in this area will do a basic remodel of that space for 20K and others will do a moderate face lift for 5k.
Hope that helps.

Tough question to answer without knowing more details such as whether or not we’d be changing windows, skylights, full electrical, new cabinetry, solid surface counters and fixtures ext. but on average $5000 to $25,000 gets most average sized residential single family full bathrooms done very nicely.

Between $20-30k is not unusual in our market here in San Francisco for a nice, not extravagant, “upscale” custom bathroom. The homes in our market are generally older (80-100 years old), frequently involve settling due to erosion/seismic shifts, and require updating to all systems (plumbing & electrical). The permits alone will run between $1500-2000. Relocating fixtures will add between $1500-2000 per fixture for the rough plumbing alone in many cases since we are often required to use all metal for drain piping and frequently have poor to non-existent access. Good quality tile installation labor for a custom marble shower pan and enclosure with shampoo niches can run $3500. The plumbing fixtures, vanity, medicine cabinets etc can easily cost $6000 and more. The $12,000 “high end” bathroom from the “Sunset” home improvement books is a bit of a myth out here for most of the Bay Area.

As with most others I agree there is a lot of ambiguity here but… A typical hall bath starts around 15k master about 20 on average. That’s for nice but not upscale or luxury. We have done 50k baths and they are stellar. All the stops. Radient floor, matble, custom cabinetry, car wash shower, the whole thing. If you take the national average and use the demographic where you live as a multiplier you can get a round number I’m sure. Not sure how but there is a math guy that can’t wait to tell you how. Good luck!! - Josh

12-15K for a hall bath assuming 1 sink, 30" vanity, 1 toilet and a tub. Mid range fixtures.
20-25K for a Master. Assuming 2 sinks 6 foot vanity, separate tub and tiled shower 1 toilet. Mid range fixtures.
Note that these do not include adding square footage to the existing bath.

As mentioned by many of my colleagues, price varies tremendously based on many variables. As KG from Only Bathrooms mentioned, you need several data points…he sited: size of bathroom, location (city/state), and quality of finish, (builder grade, nice or luxury), which I completely agree with…I would however add or specify a couple of other variables worth pointing out. I find many remodelers on Long Island simply connect new fixtures to existing (deteriorating galvanized) DWV and water supply lines; add new exhaust fans and recessed lighting and receptacles to the single existing circuit, (which is usually junctioned to several other lights and outlets), never replace damaged or degraded framing or straighten out the wavy walls and ceiling. I try to account for some plumbing, electric and framing costs. That being said my average costs for my bath remodels are 15K-55K. I line itemize, demo, dumpster, electric, drywall, painting and installation of fixtures, then I give an allowance for framing, plumbing, an allowance to trace, separate and abate old electric. Then and of course I provide Allowances for the plumbing fixtures, vanity, tile, countertop, accessories, etc. Some people have spent 1K on the Allowances while others have spent 20K or more.

It varies on what you would like your bathroom to look like. But on average around 15-20k

It depends on your location and how much plumbing work is involved. $5k would be on the low end. $20k on the higher end for complete remodel.
