What is the average cost to remove and replace a ceiling 14'x9'x8'?

Joyce, our average demolition cost to remove sheet rock, including haul-away of debris, is $.90 per square foot. If there’s considerable prep such as providing floor covering and moving or protecting furniture or cabinetry, the cost can increase by as much as 50%. The cost to install drywall, then to tape and texture that drywall, is $1.50 per square foot. This number will likely be higher since it’s such a small project. I’m not sure what your stated dimensions describe–a ceiling should be two numbers, length and width. Assuming the area in question is around 126 square feet, the cost of demolition will be between $100 and $150, and the cost to install, tape and texture new 1/2" sheet rock could be as low as $189 and as high as $330. The cost to primer and paint the new ceiling will be between $200-$300. If you find a handyman who is adept at these trades, you may expect a savings of around 15% overall. In summary, the total average cost is around $625. Bear in mind these are Denver prices, where construction is relatively expensive.

Buerger Brothers Construction is cheap… $625 including paint for 4 sheets of drywall… Wow.

I’m out in Eastern PA, almost to Philly. I charge $600 for any drywall patch from 3x3 UP TO 1 full sheet, if that’s the only thing I’m being called out for. That covers: Floor Protection, Demo, Hauling, Blocking, New Install, Finishing, and then a Primer Coat and final touch ups. Color matched painting of the affected wall starts at an additional $150 and can go to $300 very quickly. So my telephone estimate for 9 to 32 square feet would be $600 to $900 depending on whether or not they want paint.

I would probably add $175 per sheet for any additional sheets to supply and install on a wall, or $250 per additional sheet on a ceiling. So you have 4 sheets of drywall total.

Your project, assuming 126 square feet, on a ceiling would start at $1350 and go up from there with paint.

On a wall, we’d be talking $1125 + painting

We use dustless sanding, zip walls, flooring protection and will move the major furniture items for you, if you take care of the personal knick knacks before we arrive.

Now if you are talking about drywalling a 14x9 room with 8’ ceilings… you have 20 sheets of drywall… Assuming the studs are plumb, and you have nailers framed in the right place… Supply, install and finish would go for $2750 to $5000… and the painter would handle the paint quote… Assuming 1 door, and 1 window, I’d guess $750-900 in paint without seeing it. If your framer sucked, I charge extra to fix their mistakes before sheet rocking.
