I did a job for a lady that provided Benjamin Moore, and I have to say it is hands down the best paint I have ever used. It slides off the brush perfectly. It’s not too thick, or too watery. I have had plenty of good results with Valspar, and even less good results with Sherwin Williams. i have to say when it comes to cost, Valspar offers the best quality for the price. I have been able to save more time, and money using Valspar. I know some people live by Sherwin Williams, but if you can see past the fancy label and high price, go with Valspar.
There are a many paints on the market claiming to be the best. We’ve worked with many over the years and find Benjamin Moore paints to be the best for application and durability.
Benjamin Moore the best by far!!!
Great question, LSWORKS LLC! Figuring out which paint to use is always a difficult decision for any homeowner; however, I just want to clarify a couple of items with the question before proceeding. First, I am assuming the question refers to a client that is looking to have his/her interior repainted like a living room and family room. In other words, this is not a commercial or remodel project for an investment company or a turn for an apartment complex. Secondly, by “best”, I am assuming that the question is referring to the quality of the paint and not the sheen. Therefore, I’ll give my professional opinion on the question.
First off, paint is divided into 2 parts - solid and liquid. The general consensus is that the more solid included in the paint, the better the paint quality, which is relatively true. The solid part of the paint is the pigment and the binder. The pigment is the color and the binder is the material that holds the paint together. Now to the financial aspect of these paints.
As reference, Ben Moore has more than 40% solid material in their paint. Solid material is expensive, so paint with more solid material will cost more. For instance, in your local big box store you may notice a contractor grade, a low/middle quality residential and a high end residential paint. The price will go from least expensive to most expensive, respectively. The least expensive will be more like “milk”. The most expensive paint will generally advertise 1-coat application. This is because it has more solid product in the paint. Therefore, this is what I find in most applications:
-
Painters specifically in the residential market prefer Ben Moore. This paint actually rolls on well and looks nice when finished.
-
Painters with contracting companies generally prefer Sherwin-Williams. This selection is more for pricing and convenience. However, Sherwin-Williams does have high-quality paint. It is just that their business model caters to contractors.
-
Behr and Valspar are big box store paint manufacturers. Behr is tied specifically to Home Depot whereas Valspar is in a few places like Lowe’s, Ace, etc. These are good paints that most homeowners doing projects themselves will tend to select.
In the end, I hope this answer helps with your next painting project. Good luck on the next project! Happy Painting!
