What is the best type of swimming pool to build?

There are many options available for pool construction. In-ground Gunite, Fiberglass, and Liner Pools are the three most common. An in-ground, gunite swimming pool is the way to go if you are looking for elegance, durability and custom finishes. Other types of pools can be pretty too, but none last as long as Gunite. You can create any shape with gunite, unlike fiberglass and liner pools. Gunite pools come with custom coping and tile. Gunite is a drier, “stackable” form of concrete, with sand used as the aggregate. It is shot pnuematically through a hose at a high velocity onto a steel frame. Gunite pools are 12" thick at the bond beam and then approximately 8" to 10" thick in the floor and walls, and are reinforced with 3/8" rebar throughout. The walls of fiberglass pools are 3/16" & 3/8" thick and are made of fiberglass. Pricing is suprisingly similar between gunite and fiberglass pools in many areas. In the end, it comes down to your needs, the design you have envisioned and the budget you have to create it. Before you commit to anything, do your homework. Research online, talk to contractors, and ask friends with each of these three types of pools what they think.

when comes to pools its what is best for the client. what are they going to be happy when. personally I prefer built-in pools over fiberglass or above ground

In my 30+ years in the field, the best type of swimming pool to build is an inground shotcrete pool. Shotcrete is by far better than gunite because it is stronger and cracks less than gunite. Also, the client can customize the pool.

You may choose to build an above-ground pools as these are cheaper than other types. These are very easy to build as well and are made from prefabricated kits. Otherwise, you can also opt for fiberglass pools which are made from fiberglass-reinforced plastic.

We just had a pool installed and it is a salt water pool. By far, the best way to go.
