What is tuckpointing? How do I know if I need it?

This site will explain everything to you.

Aside from the wikipedia link below, in simple terms tuckpointing is typically done to repair/replace failing mortar joints between a masonry unit. ex. brick, block (CMU), stone

Hello Roxy,
Tuck pointing is done to extend the life of your building or structure built from stone, block or brick. The portion of the cement that you can see from exterior of building would be called a joint. When the cement in the joint is falling out or missing, you need to tuck point before water damages the interior of the structure. To properly tuck point, you need to remove all of the old cement between the brick or stone and after it is cleaned out you take a tool and hand pack all of the joints with new cement. I could continue to go on about the different styles you can choose from but the overall purpose is to extend the life of your building and you need it done when you can see missing pieces or cracks throughout the structure.
