What is your number one concern when it comes to hiring a contractor for outdoor spaces?

If you are thinking about adding an outdoor living structure to your home this year, what is your number 1 concern when it comes to hiring a contractor?

In my opinion, Id have to say the most important thing to know about a contractor you’re considering hiring is how much Liability Insurance Coverage he/she has. Also, how many claims he/she has if any. You should always be confident that if the worst happens, it is well covered. Especially when the project’s scope involves adding or removing structure and living space to your home.

One thing I would consider when hiring a deck contractor is their product knowledge and expertise. There are a lot of installation requirements especially for composite decking. If these install instructions aren’t followed it can decrease the life of your deck and possibly void the warranty. It always good to see a portfolio of work, ask for references, check for license, bond and certificate of insurance.

The first thing to make sure of would be is the contractor licensed and insured. After that, inquire about their experience level. After all, “anyone” can become a contractor and in a way its an art. But to find a good one who is well versed, you have to weed out the rookies. Not to say new contractors can’t be good ones, but just know what you’re getting into.

You will also want to see if they have reviews or ratings. Feedback from other customers is always a great starting point/
