As a result of a recent water leak, we need a licensed person to repair dry wall, do painting for a family room (approx 390 SF), a half bath room (small) and a small bar wall. Also, I need someone to replace a damaged bathroom cabinet and counter top. Insurance company estimated the cost for the construction repair and taking down drapes, blinds, valences, etc. was $3000.00. Please advise: what kind of contractor should I contact and is the amount that my insurance offered a fair amount for the repair?
A general contractor or a contractor with a home improvement license can handle these repairs. Make sure they are licensed, bonded, insured and carry workers compensation insurance. Do your homework as far as references, the BBB, etc. Also, if your home was built prior to 1978, the contractor must be an EPA lead removal certified contractor.
