What recourse to take in Florida with a contractor we paid that walked off without completing the job?

We purchased a home and hired contractors for renovation. Illness in family and living one hour away prevented us from overseeing work daily. Many problems. Finally, team said it was done and left. Intentionally painted on driveway, used incorrect paint for exterior, did scattered work - nothing was complete, etc. After photos are much, much worse than before photos. We are out thousands in supplies (apparently never purchased although paid for,) double living expenses because we cannot move into the house, necessity to hire other contractors to finish work already paid for. Is there anything that we can do? There is not enough time to take these people to court (and we would incur legal fees atop thousands of materials and labor loss.) Suggestions, please! Thank you.

Despite that you are stating there is not enough time to take to court, you can take to small claims court, no lawyers are needed. Most small claims courts will allow suing for up to $5500. If you signed a contract and have any receipts on money given, keep them for court date. Also, if you made payment by check, even though they may have cashed check, you can call your bank and make a stop payment on checks issued out. I think most banks will charge you something like $30. It is well worth it.
