First of all make sure the contractor is Licenced and Insured. Go to your state site for Licensing to see if their licence is valid. Ask for a copy of their Insurance. Ask for references, Check with the BBB. Ask to see a portfolio. Its pretty much the same anywhere you want to make sure the contractor is reputable and reliable.
