What type of flooring is recommended when remodeling my bathroom?

Tile, vinyl, laminate, marble

An excellent choice for an eye grading floor choice would have to be tile, but the choice always remains ultimately up to the home owner.

I would go with tile. However, I would put a porcelain tile. Porcelain is a denser, more porous, and harder option that offers greater stain and water resistance than ceramic tile.

Hi

Bathroom floors should be impervious, easy to clean, and safe to walk on when wet. While personal taste ultimately decides, porcelain tile is the material with the best physical characteristics. In wet areas (such as the floor inside the shower) it is better you can achieve friction by using small format tiles, or mosaic. The grout joints will provide a non-slip surface. Slightly textured porcelains are also non-slip, but they are slightly tougher to clean.

In your main bathroom floor (outside your shower stall) you still want something that is impervious, but you can safely install a polished porcelain tile.

Marble is can be used as well, and it provides a unique, upscale look. The disadvantage of marble is that it is not impervious. Marble (if unsealed) will absorb moisture and stain easily. If you decide to use marble, make sure that is sealed before installation, and keep it sealed, re-applying every six months, or as needed. You can tell that your marble needs re-sealing when you mop it and it changes color.

Stay away from highly porous stones, such as limestone and hones travertines. Darker, denser natural stones perform better.

This is very much a personal preference. In my area tile is #1 and linoleum/vinyl is common for those on a budget. Don’t ever put laminate flooring in a bathroom, especially the floating kind. It will not last nor can it float when secured under the toilet.

I would recommend tile or marble.
