We had a huge overgrown plant in the back of our yard that we’re trying to remove. However, we’re realizing that it’s roots extend tens of yards underground, almost the entire length of the yard. As we prepare to start a major landscaping project, what’s the best way to make sure the ivy doesn’t come back and sabotage our other plantings?
Note: our yard has no street access, so heavy machinery isn’t an option.
I’ve always just ripped it down and pulled the roots out and put it in a garbage bag. I guess bleach would work also?
Once you have cut it out there may still be roots in the ground. Watch for new sprouts coming up and spray the sprouts with Brush B Gone. Spray with a spray bottle and spray only the new leaves as you don’t want to kill anything else. This may take a few applications before you have it all taken care of.
