I’m having a lot of trouble getting contractors to visit my parent’s house in rural Montana. They need some minor repairs, but after talking on the phone to a few contractors, nobody is willing to make the drive.
Hi there! I went to school in Bozeman and remember living 40 miles west of it, nobody wanted to ever come out and we were right on I-90!!
My only suggestion would be to find newer/just starting out contractors. They are usually more inclined to take a job for experience and cash flow. Most of the time, contractors will be estimating in their heads what the project is going to cost while you speak with them on the phone. Some may not think it’s worth their time or they may want to help but be too busy to fit it in, if it’s off the beaten path.
If they are minor repairs - try finding a handyman or someone local that has experience but may be retired and wouldn’t mind helping out for some extra cash.
Good luck to you!
- Always check the Better Business Bureau before hiring any contractor or installer. Call the BBB or visit their website. They can give you a list of contractors who have a good rating AND that will service your ZIP code.
- If no one is listed for that ZIP, contact the closest ones. Then offer to pay a trip charge and/or estimation fee.
