Remodeling a 1955 brick home. The brick is smooth. The contractor says the only brick they can find to match to seal up a window is “distressed” brick. Is he telling me the whole truth? Is there really no smooth brick to match the size?
He said b/c of size and age, that’s the only brick that matches. The brick will be painted, so color is irrelevant. They put in the brick, painted, it looks like a total mismatch.
Matching is NOT easy but with that being said you can usually find a close match on things with some digging around. Not 100% perfect but close enough for they eye not to notice only you and the contractor. I wouldn’t say the contractor is at fault but probably does not have that factored into his budget which is why he has hesitation. I would call some brick companies yourself and let them see your brick. Also try salvage or any historic preservation type places as they carry brick sometimes. We do this often but always charge more as the research, driving and chasing down the brick always a process. Hope it all works out.
