How often should you be checking your home to see if it needs a seismic retrofit? What are the regulations in California?
Chances are if you need a seismic retrofit, I wouldnt wait. The structure would show signs in the foundation and walls like cracking, uneven setteling or shifting. Have a architech visit your home or structure.
Seismic Retrofitting also known as Earthquake bolting is when the structure’s frame is bolted down to the foundation footing preventing it from ever shifting/ slipping off in the event of an earthquake. If the property was built after 1971 it is most likely already bolted/ retrofitted. We provide foundation inspections and estimates for retrofitting and repairs. Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance.

Homes built prior to 1978 were not designed to withstand seismic forces, and are in need of an earthquake retrofit. Many homes have been “retrofitted” in the past, but can usually be improved to meet current standards. Typical retrofitting includes bolting, mudsill blocking, floor joist blocking, additional framing, seismic clips, and plywood sheathing. It is advised to consult with a licensed contractor and/ or engineer with experience with seismic retrofitting.
