When it comes to hiring a contractor for home improvement, what is your biggest concern?

Is the contractor reputable, honest, licensed? Ask for references, length of time Contractor has been in business. Are they working under the original company name or have they changed names (re-licensed) due to some unresolved issue with the Building Official?

First thing they need to be licensed in the state where work will be done , second must be insured to preform work in that state , three, they should have many up to date references for your type of project , four should be able to have a written estimate of your project , and a written contract showing all the estimate scope and payment schedule for progress of project , in mass can not collect no more than 1/3 down for deposit on labor and materials before start of project ,but can collect 100% on materials delivered to project site materials only .
