When spraying an interior, should I paint the semi-gloss enamel on the woodwork first or last?

In what order do you like to spray a complete interior paint job? Walls and ceilings first, then semi-gloss on woodwork, or visa versa?

Always the walls first - then the trim . when painting the trim if you don’t have a steady hand you can tape off the walls where it meets the trim, with a green tape from a paint store

That is a great question, since many homeowners and painters alike may not know what works the best.

Walls and ceilings first, with back rolling on the walls. Then allow for the dry time, and go back and paper and tape the woodwork. Best tape to use is the 10 x 20 1 inch tape (the red back) it will easily pull off without taking any paint off. Then spray your enamel. Best to apply 3 to 4 coats to obtain the best sheen.

Hope this answers your question!

This really depends on the contractor. We always paint trim/doors first, walls, then ceiling (assuming it’s split). We spray all surfaces with no hand cutting. I think there is only 2 people in the country who can cut in by hand what I would consider an acceptable cut line. I know guys who do it differently. There’s really no wrong order to it.

I always do trim first. I spray the trim and the ceilings and then cut in and roll the walls. I come from a sign painting background and can get a beautiful sharp edge on my cuts. But I am comfortable with that, it does not mean its the right way or the only way. It just means its what I think works best for me. Other painters will work the exact opposite and have just as good a finish. Its up to the contractor. If they know their stuff, then you’ll have a great job either way.
