When you get multiple bids for a new roof, how do you choose?

The roofing industry is very competitive, especially when there are more than 300 licensed contractors in my city. I would like to know how my potential customers make their decision as to who they hire for the job. We are a small business, with word of mouth as our only advertising, so any information would be appreciated.

If you have satisfied previous customers, ask the most personable of them if you can have prospective clients call them for their opinion and experience.

Always tell them the experience you have and the work that has to be done and the accompanying price. Sometimes, that will get you the job, even after a long time out of work.

Most importantly I ask for proof of insurance - both general liability and workman’s comp. If a roofer doesn’t have both forms of insurance, I will not use them.
